waylon meyers
1 year case study
Waylon Meyers started training with us in June 2018. He started with a test: Watching a reference for 1 minute, and then trying to draw it by memory. This was his result:
After more than a year (December 2019) he did the same test, with a different drawing and this was his result:
Major Breakthrough!
NOTE: Again, the test consisted on viewing a drawing for 1 minute, then remove the reference, and then he drew it from memory.
You see, for years he was drawing and drawing and was not getting the improvement he wanted.
It felt like the more he practiced, the more stuck he got.
But after joining our training, he had a breakthrough.
He started by memorizing our visual exercises.
visual exercises
These are some of the exercises he took in the Full Training of the Rogue Mangaka. Stages 1, 2 and 3
Once he was able to draw faces with the correct proportions by memory, he was able to draw references with more precision.
Then, he started drawing references and pushing himself to de-construct the reference (one of the techniques we use), drawing page after page of some mangas, and really understanding them.
reference exercises
After that, he was able to combine visual images he had in his mind (after memorizing so many exercises) and started creating his own original characters.

Quality of angles and expressions are obvious.
Waylon is still training consistently week by week, drawing around 7-10 drawing per week.
He is working to fulfill his dream of creating his own original manga.
